Thinking of investing in water-saving devices but wondering how long it will take to recover the cost? Is it a smart purchase or an unnecessary expense? These questions have clear, measurable answers.
What is payback?
Put simply, payback is the time an investment takes to return its cost: how long the monthly savings take to cover what you spent. For water-saving devices the sum is easy: divide the price of the device by the total you save each month on water and hot water, and you have the number of months until the investment is recovered.
The shorter that period, the better the investment. In both homes and businesses our devices have been seen to pay for themselves within a few months.
- A double gain: Your water and energy bills fall at the same time.
- Measurable efficiency: You can calculate exactly how much you save compared with standard fittings.
- Long-term profit: Once the payback period is over, the savings become net gain for years.
- A guaranteed investment: The 5-year product warranty protects what you have spent.
What affects the saving and the payback period
- Usage habits: The number of people, shower length and how often taps are used directly affect the saving.
- Choosing the right product (L/min): Picking the flow rate that suits your needs gives the best saving.
- Share of hot water: The more hot water you use, the greater the energy saving and the total gain.
- Condition of your current fittings: Replacing very old, wasteful fittings increases the saving.
- Faster results in business: Heavy use in places such as hotels and restaurants shortens the payback period considerably compared with homes.
Estimate your own payback period
- Find your monthly water saving (₺): Compare your current consumption with that of the new device (L/min). Work out the litres saved for your monthly use and multiply by the price of water per cubic metre.
- Add your monthly energy saving (₺): If you use a lot of hot water, you can estimate an additional energy saving of roughly 40–50% of the monthly water saving. This ratio varies with use.
- Add up the total monthly saving: Water saving plus energy saving.
- Calculate the payback period (months): Divide the total cost of the device by the total monthly saving. The result is roughly how many months the investment takes to pay for itself.
The calculation gives an estimate that depends on your habits and bills. In general the investment is recovered in 3–6 months in homes and 1–3 months in businesses. For the most accurate result use the water and energy unit prices on your own latest bill; the calculator on our home page also gives a quick estimate.
